With reference to the law of insurance: Distinguish between “perils” and “hazards”

Perils and hazards

Perils are events or circumstances that causes or may potentially cause a loss i.e. fire, flooding, hailstorms, etc. While hazards are actions, conditions, circumstances, or situations that make a peril more likely to occur or a loss more likely to be suffered as the result of peril i.e. sky diving, base jumping, etc.
