Contributions of equity:

  • It granted injunctions and would order specific performance where common law could award only damages.
  • It recognised trusts and a beneficiary could compel a trustee to administer the trust property in accordance with the terms of the trust.
  • It recognised equitable doctrine of part-performance in which a case could be proved in court by verbal evidence even if the law requires written evidence of the transaction.
  • It recognised mortgagor’s right of redemption of the mortgaged property after discharging the loan.
